One of my young pullets has swollen and hot feet and hock joints on both legs and can’t walk. She has no signs of bumblefoot, no lesions. She is also pretty young to get bumblefoot, I’ve only ever seen it older hens. She eats and drinks and is alert. No URI symptoms. No one else has it. Does anyone know what this could be? Thank you.

Mycoplasma Synoviae comes to mind or it may be gout.

What do you feed, including treats?

@dawg53 @MysteryChicken
Pretty much just high quality layer pellets (her group is just starting to lay). Occasional house leftovers but not enough to make a difference. They free range during the day. thanks

I suspect it might be either a Staph infection or Mycoplasma Synoviae (MS).
Tylan will treat MS. Amoxicillin will treat a staph infection.
MS is contagious to other birds. If you've seen this before in older birds, it could possibly be MS. Gout can be found in older birds if they are fed too much calcium or protein, it is not contagious to other birds like MS.
A vet may take a blood sample to determine if it's MS or not. Or it might be best to contact your local extension office to find out about getting bloodwork done.
