Swollen feet

Help, one of my hens feet are incredibly swollen, it has been going on for a week, I looked for lesions and any black spots, nothing. she is lethargic, and can hardly walk now. I have been soaking and cleaning her feet daily, and dusting her feet. I have done the same with the rest of the girls too. I gutted the coop, scrubbed it down and dusted that also. I feel horrible. Her feet are so swollen. Any advice would be appreciated.

Are the feet hot? Does it look like bumblefoot?

It's a serious infection that starts from a small cut or wound that allows bacteria to enter. If that's what it is, soaking won't help. You need surgery to cut out the infected tissue and inject a antibiotic or combiotic into the affected area.

Welcome to BYC. Have you examined the legs to see if any of the joints are swollen? A picture or two of the feet would help to see the swollen foot in comparison to the other. Leg mites, gout, mycoplasma synoviae (MS,) and viral arthritis would be diseases that would cause one or more feet to swell, in addition to bumblefoot. MS is a respiratory disease that attacks the bones and joints. Below are pictures showing MS in the first two and gout in the third picture.

sorry I'm new to the photos too.. these are of lois right now, both feet are swollen, she is molting too, and has lost some weight. i could not see any lesions, no infection either, joints look small and normal. her feet are normally much cleaner, i just dusted her again this morning... thoughts? she looks dreadful, she is normally bright eyed and so snuggly...

Have you ever noticed any signs of a respiratory infection (sneezing, watery or foamy eyes, nasal drainage, or chest rattles) from her or any others? MS is a respiratory disease, but may not have many symptoms other than swelling of the joints. Gout can affect chickens who have had excess calcium, salt, or protein in the diet. Certains antibiotics (such as sulfa,) water deprivation, vitamin A deficiency, and fungus infections can cause it, among other things. Thank u so much, I haven't noticed and wheezing caughing or sneezing, but I will be watching for that now absolutely... I they have all been molting pretty heavily this fall, so I have upped the treats and meal worms. A lot. They have a huge can watering system, and a chicken watering system fed fresh from the hose.. I'm going to read that arrival right now, thank you again..

hey guys, we lost lois today. she was a sweet girl, we are really going to miss her sweet personality and her beautiful blue eggs... thank you for all who helped me try to sort all this out the past couple days.. i still don't know what killed her, but i know she was hurting..
