Hello,

my 4 year old Leghorn hen started limping and we noticed she had a very swollen foot in general. we used an antiinflamatory and antibiotic ointment and she got better after a week, now walking normally but still quite a bit swollen.
we never had bumblefoot but it doesn't quite look like that.. i just wanted to doublecheck here to see if someone had a similar experience.
in the past year we treated her 3 times to get rid of the leg parasites with vegetable oil but it doesn't seem connected to that.

i am very grateful for your input,
greetings from Argentina

That looks like gout, but could just be scaly leg mites. Do you see any bumblefoot scabs on the foot and toe pads? Soaking feet in warm Epsom salts or Betadine water for 15 minutes daily, and gently scrubbing off any debris with a soft toothbrush can help. Then apply vaseline or other oil to her feet and legs. Do it daily for a few days, then twice a week, then once a week, until they start looking better.

Hello, no bumblefoot sign whatsover! Thank you for your advice, just bought some epsom salt and see if it helps. we will try and see if it's the scaly leg mites (I wish)

will update in a week :)

Hi, no results with the epsom salts.. the antibiotic cream is keeping it normal, when stopped it starts to swell again.. so we will keep on putting the cream on and hope for the best. The hen is feeling great luckily.. thank you all for your advice
