1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
RIR Hen, 1 year. She's fairly porky. Not skinny at all.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
swollen foot, limping.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
2 weeks of gradual swelling
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
no
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
no
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
nothing
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
free ranged supplemented with lay mash. Regular water.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Normal
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Washed foot and cut it open, I expected to find infection, there appears to be none. I did not cut too deeply since I wasnt sure how far to safely go.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Vet is a last resort. I will however do what I can.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
I will post pictures after I soak her foot again later.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
They sleep in a coop at night. Roost on a 1x6 inverted board, coop is bedded in straw, faily heavily, they are outside in the grass (and barn) at least 12 hrs every day
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks again!
