Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could peg what we are dealing with here:

chicken_issue.jpg

This is on our hefty one year old Delaware chicken. The area is soft and appears painful. I noticed a couple of nights ago she was sitting on the roost odd with her foot pushed out and I checked her foot at the time, but didn't notice anything. Today it is obvious. It is not bleeding, but it looks about ready to burst.

My chickens free range the entire day, with a supplement of pellets.

Thanks in advance!

Warm Regards,

Mama Knucker Hatch.

Is there a dark spot on the underneath of the foot?

It MIGHT be bumblefoot - do a search for that and see if you can compare pictures to your girl.

Speckledhen has bumblefood experience - maybe shoot her a PM and see if she will take a look at your pics to see if she has any thoughts.

Hope you get some help for her!

I was looking at Bumblefoot symptoms right after I posted, and I thought for sure I might see a large dark scab under her foot. There isn't.

There is a small pin sized dark dot on the pad, but that is it. Does that still sound like Bumblefoot?

Warm Regards,

Mama Knucker Hatch

I am really curious to know what this is as well. A few of my chickens have a swollen bump on top of a web between their toes. I don't think it's bumblefoot.

OH wow that does look really painful. I have no experience with any sicknesses yet mine are only 12 weeks old. I hope to learn all about this tho in case it happens to me. Please keep us informed as to what happens with your chicken. Poor baby! I hope you find someone who can help you very soon! I would start antibiotics right away...obviously there is some sort of infection going on in there.

Good luck!

My one hens foot looked just like that and she only had a small scab on the bottom of her foot. I treated it as bumble foot and it healed up great. There was a lot of cheesy stuff in it when I cut it open. I went in from the top of the bump instead of under the foot pad.
