I have a chicken with Swollen, Hot legs and is now starting to walk pigeon toed. Poor baby is actually starting to step on her own feet as she walks. She's 3 1/2 months old.
She eats well. Plenty of Fruit, grain and bugs. Bugs however are becoming few and far in between as she sits more now and is only getting the bugs that seem to cross her path. Vary clean housing. A friend that looked at her said she is at a very healthy weight and is puzzled by what might be wrong with her. PLEASE, does anyone has any ideas?? Do you think Antibiotics will help? I have Penicillin 250 mg on hand but wouldn't know the dosage for a chicken. Thank you for your Help

Could she have scaly leg mites? Typically the leg scales are raised and rough. Treatment is to smother them with something like Vaseline. It seems to help to start off with a gentle wash and scrub with a very gentle brush. The mites live under the leg scales. There are a lot of pics of scaly leg mites on BYC -- just do a general search. If that's not what she has, I wouldn't have any idea what to guess next.

No her legs are smooth and I'm happy to say that has been eliminated from the equation. Her legs are swollen. Hot to the touch.

Still puzzled. I appreciate the reply. Thank you
