Swollen nostril, weezing from the nostril.

Hello,
About a month ago, I had a chicken that started wheezing and mouth breathing. Imediatly I moved her away from the flock. I tried salt water solutions but the problem persisted until she died on a cold rainy day. I figured it was probably the cold wet weather that got her.
However, another one of my girls seems to have similar symptoms right now. but this time I caught it much earlier.
I removed her and upon examining I noticed that one nostril was slightly inflamed and the weezing would come about every ten seconds only out of that side. I dripped some warm salt water down that nostril in case it was some kind of bacteria. I dont have many supplies or anti biotics so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.
about 14 weeks old. Rhode Island Red.

Coop is clean and sanitary and the only thing I can think of that could cause it was that the chickens got into some dog doo doo the other day...

Any suggestions would help.

I would go easy on the saline. It could contribute to dehydration. It could be CRD or IB. Google them and see if the symptoms match. If she's laying, you'll know it's IB from the malformed eggs. Some poly-vi-sol for infants (not the extra iron one) could be helpful, three drops on the beak twice daily. Make sure she gets plenty of fluids. An electrolyte solution wouldn't hurt either.

Disease can come from anywhere (other peoples feet, wild birds etc...). If it is CRD then the bird must be culled and a few random birds tested to see if they have it (some birds are carriers and show no symptoms). If the tested birds do have it then you have 2 options 1: A closed flock, no one in and no one out until they are all gone. 2: Cull the entire flock disinfect the coop with a bleach solution and rebuild the flock afterwords.

Well here are results.

I found a saline solution in the medicine cabinet ( for humans when we have sinous infection in which we spray the mist through out nose etc...) and thought I would give it a shot on the chicken.
After the first day her nose stopped leaking juices.
The second day it dried up.
By the third day the swelling had gone down and now she's back in business.
Hope it's not animal cruelty to use this nose spraying devise but maybe it helped the hen get better. I would say it did considering I lost the last hen to the same symptoms.
Who knows.
Anyways, I thought I would post in case any one else wanted to give a shot when in desperite need of ideas...
