My female Pekin has a toe that is swollen. There's no injury present, she's very active, not limping, and eating/acting normal and sassy as usual. It's just swollen and not long and thin like the rest of her toes. It does seem to bend and flex normally and she doesn't seem to mind when I manipulate it. It has been like this for weeks. Do I need to be concerned?

Welcome to BYC.

Last, thing you're going to want to do, but could you post a few more pictures without your thumb applied to it?

I'll see what I can do. Won't be tonight, we're supposed to get a lot of rain.

Looks like early bumble.

I check her feet often and we do epsom salt soaks regularly at the first sign of any scabs or cuts. There was never any open injury to this toe and the swelling has been this way for weeks. I used to play basketball and it almost reminds me of when I would jam a finger and how the joint would swell after. She's a very active duck. Is it possible she stubbed it and it just has not healed? I hate to keep her cooped for long periods.

Meet Buddy and Rosie. They have a terrible life. A 1 acre fenced yard for dawn to dusk free ranging and full lake access. We also have several other ducks (Ms Quackers, Joe, and Sir Winston Duckbill-Pekin and mallards) but they are semi-wild and don't go in the coop at night. We have merely adopted them off the water with love and treats so they stick around. Joe we raised with Buddy and Rosie but when he was ready to fly he went off on his own. But he spends probably 80% of his time at our property and socializes.

@Magnolia Ducks was right. It was bumble. I don't know how the initial infection started because I never saw any injury but during a routine foot check last night I noticed she had developed one of the dark scabs near her toe. I was able to get the scab off rather easily which left a small open wound. My wife was able to squeeze out the hard piece of infection which was the cause of the swelling. Toe looks much better already! Then we washed the wound with Vetericyn spray and packed with Vetericyn gel and wrapped the foot. She was confined to a smaller pen today to keep the foot dry and happily napped most of the day. We'll do a Epsom salt soak tonight and retreat with the Vetericyn and wrap again and keep this routine up until the toe is fully healed. I think she's happy to finally have that hard infection out!
