I have a chick, I havent been able to figure out what is wrong with it. The back of the neck, just behind the head, several feathers are missing, they look scratched or pecked off. The skin is swollen and lumpy, like a mosquito bite. Ive checked for mites, but cant find any sign. Ive treated for it too, but I dont think its mites. Some of the feathers that are broken off have a little bit of scabbing.

All my other chicks, 16 others, are fine. Just this one chick has this area messed up. I cant get a picture because he keeps wiggling and they all came out blurry.

Any ideas would be great. He keeps scratching at the area. He is about 5 weeks old and is a speckled sussex.

Any help would be so very awesome! Thanks!

That was my thought, too. Can you separate him in the brooding area, in a way that he can still see the others? Also, maybe try putting some Blue Kote (think that's now you spell it?) or Neosporin on the affected area and see if that helps....

Thanks for the replies!

I dont have a way of separating him, but I am going to get some neosporine. I recently moved them to the new coop and its huge and has lots of room for him to escape the others if he needs to. He such a sweet little bird. I think its a boy, but Im hoping its a girl lol.
