Hello

I have a runner who's been limping for a few days that we've noticed has a swollen middle toe. We've had lots of ice here over the past month and have seen the birds have a few slips and are thinking that could have been what caused it. Having said that, we have her stuck in the run now so she's off her feet to not make it worse. We gave her an epsom soak since she has a bumble sore on her other foot so hopefully that helps her toe too.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay. No it doesn't.

We gave her another epsom salt bath yesterday and trimmed her nails. She's still limping around today. It doesn't help that we have a drake that will chase her (and the others) around sometimes. When our bird hospital structure comes in tomorrow we're going to section off a part of our run and keep her in there to keep her from him and to stay off her feet.

We're hoping another few days of rest will help things for her.

You can wrap it for support too. You said there is a bumble foot sore.? I would put something on that sore like the Epsom salt poultice or an antibiotic ointment (without painrelief in it )or at least spray it with Vetricyn and then place a Guaze pad under her foot and then wrap it with Vet wrap. There are some good videos on YouTube showing how to wrap a duck’s foot with Vet wrap. You don’t wanna make it too tight and you wanna make sure the dewclaw is sticking out the back too

The bumble is on her other foot and not the side that is causing the limp. We went through bumble with one of our other ducks last summer so we know all the tricks :) thanks though.
