Hi, our little girl has had a "poopy" butt for about 5 days and she didn't lay any eggs when usually she will lay one a day or skip one day. Two days ago, we noticed that her vent was swollen so we logged on this site and thought maybe she was egg bound. So we soaked her butt in warm water like suggested this morning, several times, and she did lay an egg. But now, 8 hours later, her vent is still very swollen. See pictures. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Kelly

Don't know what kind of chicken. In the pics below, she is the little gold one. We bought her and the other two at a swap meet in June. The lady said she was a chick last year...so a yearish old. She lays medium sized green/blue eggs.
They sleep inside the barn at night and they are outside during the day. We just started letting them out of their pen about a week ago, however, they really don't venture very far.
I just got back in from closing them up for the night and I went inside the barn just to look at her and she is up on the roost, tail moving up and down, breathing a little heavy with her mouth open. That's is all I know.

Hi, I just did a search on prolapse and found a thread from a couple years ago...from just reading it, it does sound like that is what she has. So tomorrow I will have hubby put honey on it and push it in and see what happens. Thanks for suggesting that it might be prolapse!! Now I just hope it is not too late to help her.

Hi,

Yes, that is a prolapse.

I wish you all the best. I don't like to be the bearer of bad news but I don't want you to be too upset if you should lose her. I have not had any success in saving any birds I've had that prolapsed.

God Bless,
