Swollen wattles

I have an RIR roo that is mature and he has developed very swollen wattles. First it was just one side and now the other is getting big too. I gave it a poke with an aspirating needle and got some pussy looking stuff out. He is now being lethargic and hiding from the others. Anyone else ever deal with this? Anything I can do to make him better? Thanks! Terri O

Thanks Mother Jean...that does look kind of like what he has. Of course I am off to a chickenstock this weekend but maybe my kids can give him some meds...I dont know if it is actually what they describe because I have had no mortality at all. I do have wild birds and rodents that can get in though, and my chickens free-range extensively. Worth a try--thanks! Terri O
