I will be recieving a breeding trio of Japanese Bantams in about a week and I am trying to figure out different ways to create their run so that their wing tips and other feathers do not get dirty. I was thinking about a syntheitc grass which will be easy to hose down and clean, and keep the mud and fecese off of their wings in order to keep them in tip top condition for show. The only problem I have is whether or not it will harm the birds of they end up pecking and eating the synthetic grass? Does anyone use this for their run? Does it work ok?

Thank You!

I know some people use it for ducks. I guess I'd worry if it looked like grass, they'd try harder to eat it than a different color of indoor/outdoor carpet. But it sounds like a good idea and would be better on their feet than wire. Another option would be pine pellets. They are really absorbent and suck the moisture out of the poo really fast. Or sand.
