No just the right wig extremist's. The unity part is Obamas thing. I'm realistic to know we'll never have unity. Last chance we had for that was after 9/11. We didn't have leadership that knew how to take advantage of it though. Don't worry your safe.

Are not right wing extremist US Citizens? So you admit that the "One" is not realistic? I thought the Unity of the country was inspiring after 9/11, but it couldn't last certain left wing opportunists saw a opening do drive a wedge deeper into our country using fear mongering and hatred, based purely on party lines. You know some people like that don't you?

Ya know, I should be able to understand the Left Wingers....

I'm the family genealogist, I had Witch Hunters and Tories in my ancestry. (the Tories got chased into Canada).

For the life of me, however, I just don't get it

Yes, it is depressing. I was born in the Army base hospital, lived on base/army housing for a lot of years before my dad retired. It was harder to get in back then. They wouldn't even take you if you were too much overweight.

eta - except for that pesky draft where they took almost anyone who was breathing and walking under their own power.

"Desperate times..." and all that, I guess.

Yes the draft was bad news. Missed it by 2 years. I was worried though. We had at least 5 or 6 kids in our senior class that had brothers come home in body bags. I'm glad Iraq hasn't claimed as many lives.

The volunteer Amy was supposed to raise the standards. Of course not too many people volunteer when there is a war on. If a country had attacked the trade center I think there would be a lot more volunteers.

Oh, you know a really good book to read? "The Devil in Massachusetts"

That book scared the life outta me - I recognized my neighbors in that book. Yeah, it was about the Salem Witch Trials - but it applies today.

It is all about how perfectly normal people are sucked into hunting down and vilifying their neighbors, and how easy and "correct" it seems at the time.

It's the Mob Mentality - the majority rules, and if you don't agree with the Majority (and tradition) you are the enemy.

My husband's number was called up - one week before he was to report the Draft was repealed.

Your right no administration has had to deal with it. Maybe they read their memos instead of playing golf. Who knows? When you say we barely beat the death stats from the trade center I assume you are talking about the American boys that have died in Iraq. Of course you haven't taken in to consideration all the legs and arms that aren't attached anymore or the brain damage. Then of course there's all the Iraqi civilians that have been killed because of Bushes war.

We could have best honored the people dead in the Trade Center by going after the people responsible. Sorry, Iraq was a true waste of everything. That's all I'll say because I think the families of the fallen soldiers have suffered enough.

By the way. Have you ever served?

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1, 2008 – Despite a challenging recruiting environment, all four branches of the military have met with significant recruiting success in the past year and are on target to continue that success, the services’ recruiting chiefs told a Congressional committee yesterday.

In fiscal 2007, the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps all exceeded their active-duty enlisted recruiting goals, and only the Air Force fell slightly short of its goal on the reserve-component side, the officers in charge of recruitment for the four services said at a hearing of the personnel subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

That's good to hear. Viet Nam was a pretty tough war. I would be worried if I had a loved one in the middle east. I would've been terrified to have a loved one in Nam.

Which one of us "you people" are you asking?
