Taboo

I didn't know there are bull fighting events where the bull is not stabbed.
I think they touched on the womanhood initiation rights in one of the episodes. It may be another educational show though. I watch a LOT of sociology based shows, especially ones that deal with comparing different cultural norms and taboos and ones that deal with the science of the sexes (male and female behavior in societies)

I watched it just last night where a young woman went too far with breast implants and ended up with a life threatening infection. She had to have them removed, and even then planned to redo them once she had healed. The had gone to Brazil to have the implants because the U.S. doctors wouldn't touch the size she wanted. When she was in the surgery for them to be removed, the doctor ended up finding TWO large implants in each breast. Really unbelievable that someone would go to that extreme. They showed the surgery too, but I won't comment about it here, other than to say it was shocking. She plans to get KKK implants (yes, that's the size!). Can you imagine?

She would not only suffer from surgery but if she didn't have surgery, she would indure horrible shoulder and back pains. Ask Dolly Parton.

she has body dismorfic disorder (did I say it right?) the poor thing. It s a true mental illness where they think thee is something wrong with them physically, that isn't.

I think there is one where women get facial cuts for initiation into womanhood, and another where women get their teeth shaped into points with a machete for beauty. There's also the brass rings that crush the clavicle and ribs and forced feeding to make young girls fatter so they can marry higher up in society. There is such a thing as female circumcision that is a bit more involved than male circumcision and this is a family friendly board, so I won't go into it.

Men and women get a fair share of bizarre rituals for adulthood and attractiveness.

It's amazing what women have to endure in many societies, just because they are the physically weaker for the most part. How many societies have customs that emasculate or somehow minimalize men? Actual customs that nave been around for centuries. Curious but not curious enough to actually research it.

Look up "Bloodless bullfighting," "Toros Las Vegas," "California Bullfighting," or "Fred Renk" -

Those are all American-based forms of bullfighting without any actual harm to the bull. Fred Renk runs a ranch for fighting bulls in Texas, and in Texas, bullfights are legal if there is absolutely no use of any weapons of any kind. The bulls are in fact even used again in future events after they first perform. In California, they use velcro patches and velcro tips on the "banderillas" (frilly wooden sticks) so that they simply stick to the bull, not pierce it. There's a whole Portuguese community that keeps bloodless bullfights going in California. In Las Vegas, Nevada, there's a new company, Don Bull, that starts up (expensive!) bloodless bullfighting events each year, again using velcro.

I don't like the cruelty in bullfighting but I would admit, without the blood and horror that happens, it is a beautiful thing if you just watch the first third, or watch it without the blood. Personally I could care less for Manolete or some of our current "famous" bullfighters, but Morante de la Puebla is a guy, who if there was no blood, I'd watch if I had the money. He knows how to work a cape and how to make a bull move how he wants! Javier Conde is another guy. Not the best with movement, but he somehow has a talent that makes a lot of bulls get pardoned. (returned to live out their lives in the pasture)
