My girls are 2 weeks old today, the roo is a few days older then them. Two of the four girls are started to get some nice looking tail feathers. However, no one else is getting them, not even the one that is supposed to be a roo. I'm a little worried that my roo is not a roo and that two of my "girls" are in fact roos. Are the tail feathers any indication at this age, or do they just feather out differently? The odd thing is these are the two that I already couldn't find any distiquishing marks on lo)

can you post some pics? we have all been mistaken on sex of our chicks...maybe you are too?

I knew you were gonna ask for pics! Had to go take them and get them uploaded.... they were not very cooperative today. Hiding out under the hen house and I wasn't able to pick them up and hold each one for a pic.

Tried to get combs and tails

This is the one who's head got cut off in the previous picture

The one in front has no tail feathers, the one in the back does.

This is supposed to be my rooster.... I feel like he is starting the get more color in his comb, but he is a few days older than the rest.

These are my 2 without tail feathers that are supposed to be hens.

Roo is on the left, the other two are the two with tail feathers.

I think you are right about the roo....these are Barred Rock correct?

here is a shot of mine...all roos...this was from last year

Yes they are all Barred Rocks. I got them all from the feed store last Monday. I really hope they are girls cause I paid for 4 girls and 1 rooster. He did have his head marked.

Any idea on just the 2 having tail feathers?

Oh, and I don't know where they get their chicks from.

They look female to me. See how much darker they are next to your roo. If they are true BR then the darker with dark legs =female, the lighter, or greyish, or more white it has in it's color and plain yellow legs =male

You know I was wondering much the same thing about one of my two week old BC Marans.

Of the six, five have wing feathers that cover the length of their bodies and are getting nice little tail feathers going.
But one, a little bigger than the others, has wings that are only about two thirds as long as the others and only has just the start of tail feathers peeking. Based on what a lot of folk say about feather development, I'm thinking this one may be a roo.

My silkie babies are starting to get little tail fluffies at 11 days old. They're like little dandylion fluffies and super cute! I hope that you guys are right with the early tail and wing development being girls cause I'm crossing my fingers for two pullets!
