Hello all,

I found an egg that *I think* fell from it's nest that was high up on top some rocks, it landed in the water. I took the egg and tried putting it back in the nest but the mom and dad kept hissing at me. I thought to myself, maybe it's dead or the geese didn't know I was trying to give back their egg.

Anyways, I decided to take it home and I candled it to see what's inside. The goosling in there is huge and it's moving! Now I've been reading your forums for the past 2 days and I'm keeping the egg at 100f and 50% humidity. All I want is what's best for this goosling. It's close to hatching and I can't find "starter chick feed" anywhere. I called a bird feed store and they said they have sunflower seeds without the shell (grinded maybe?) that I could give to my goosling.

Do you guys have any tips for what to do when it starts hatching, and what to feed it when it does. It would be greatly appreciated!

Go outside and cut some grass and dandelion leaves and chop up good and give to the gosling along with water they need water to help eat the food and do not forget chick grit to help digest the grass and dandelion leaves. NO sunflower seeds. Goslings need waterfowl crumbles or gamebird crumbles for the first two to three weeks and then changed over to adult food...

Okay so online I found this...

Starter food for chickens:

Gamebird food:

Waterfowl crumble:

Sorry just to make sure I understand do I need either "grass and dandelion leaves with chick grit" or "waterfowl crumbles" or gamebird crumbles" food? Wasn't sure if the chick grit was just used to help the gosling digest. Is there anywhere in Canada, Ontario, Ottawa to buy this type of food? I'm having a hard time finding a place that sells food online. I can't order it either, because the goosling will start hatching anytime soon.

Get the waterfowl crumble but also feed cut grass and dandelion leaves chopped up because that is their natural food. Yes, the need chick grit to grind the grass and dandelions. The crumbles when you feed it do not need the grit with but they need all I have mentioned in their diet mainly grass. Feed the crumbles to them but also supply the chopped grass and dandelion leaves because the grass and dandelion leaves are great for them. The crumbles is fed to them as well.
Make sure when it is warm and sunny to take them out and let them graze on the grass and stay with them when doing so to protect them. It is important they get grass that is their main diet.
