the stud was to start showing this year, however complications in my pregnancy forced me not to be able to, and we are hoping to start in the Spring with him. he is bred by us so showing him is all the more special. The mother was taken from an abusive situation when we got her. The man beat her and if any male raised their voice around her she would fall to the ground and pee on herself. She also came to us pregnant at 1 1/2 years old, they were very irresponsible people. She has come a long way since we got her, she no longer fears males, but she is a mommy only. Several of her puppies have started show careers.
As far as health clearences, all of our dogs have been vet examined, they do not have hip dysplasia, PRA, etc. I have not done the OFA because you can take a dog with bad hips and if your vet is good, they can position the hips (since the dog is asleep)and make them look good when if fact they are not. To prove this fact my vet took a dog with hip dysplasia (think it was a golden retriever), did the OFA Xrays, and the dog got a good rating. Knowing your lines and what is being produced in them is more helpful than a rating.
In the 6 years we have bred them, we have not produced one puppy with a hip, elbow, or eye problem. We have slow grow lines, they get their height before the bulk, that is the key there. If you have one that bulks up too fast, the legs can not handle the weight and you get bad problems.
