You could do what some suggest and get 5 of each kind though unless you're willing to eat or rehome the extra roos when you finally decide on what to keep, I wouldn't get a roo of each.
What I did was think long and hard about things such as weather conditions and egg and meat production then went with birds whose combs wouldn't get frostbite, known to lay in winter, etc. Since I got them from a hatchery I went with 2 breeds, gold laced wyandottes and buckeyes for the minimum about to get a discount.
