LOL

I want a silkie or something SO BADLY. I can't breed chickens, but I wish I could... I have a White Rock who has some black on her, but not sure if she's considered a splash or not or even if she's anything special :p I would love to have a 'Splash Rock' XD
Keep in mind that silkies can go broody multiple times a year as do most bantams. If you can't breed birds and don't want more chicks then that can be a major problem.

I thought you could break them? If not, I'll have a problem with my other bantam...

you can it just takes time and you have to do it everytime they go broody or u can get a fake egg and place it under them and just let them sit...so far we have had an oegb, a sebright, the silver duckwing yokohamas (3 times in 5 months), and a blk assuie (sitting right now)

Yes, I agree. However, for some birds, like silkies, it is ingrained in their brains to brood. For these birds, it can be stressful to them and bad for their well being to be continually broken from something they are made to do. It is best not to get one of these birds like silkies if you do not want to use them for their intended purpose, to hatch out chicks for you.

I have a mixed EE hen, hen & roo Americauna, Lavender Orph hen & roo, wt leghorn hen, 2 silkies ( one is mixed), 1 cookoo maran hen, 5 mixed BR w/wt leghorn (although 1 might be cookoo maran) pullets, and 9 mixed roos and pullets, and 1 we just hatched from a cookoo maran hen w/ a americauna roo, hopefully to get a oliver egger. one hatched, I believe it to be a pullet, cross your fingers. and a wellsummer pullet (I hope anyway).

We are crazy about our chickens as much as our dogs! we have a Boston Terrier female, Standard size Chaua female and a apple head Chaua male puppy and a pit bull female.

Our Boston thinks she is in the chicken raising along with us! She loves to stare at the chicks and walks around sniffing the chickens in the pen like they were dogs. My husband says he has
OCD. Obessive Chicken Disorder.

We have had some problems getting some raised. We lost our 3 Cochin newborn chicks, & 3 lavender chicks and a couple mixed chicks to Cocci and a dog., Alot we have had turned out to be roosters. But we have been blessed for someone to take them.

And it is so hard waiting for them to lay. Every time we buy a bag of feed, we hope they will give us eggs!

Nice talking about our chickens. One thing I have found, is that Chicken Keeping is a brotherhood. You just want to talk about it to someone who cares, because they have some too. They don't mind listening and want to talk too. Picking each other's brains and sharing around chickens. Love it!

I am crazy about my chickens as much as my 3 dogs, too! Crossing my fingers that your olive egger is a pullet.

Your Boston sounds just like my chihuahua, staring at chicks and sniffing fluffy chicken butts, lol! It always is great to talk about chickens with someone who actually wants to hear.
