This is my new baby duckling, her name is Moose. I have a few questions being this is my first time having a duck. I was wondering what is the best kind of things to feed her (treat wise). I got her from my neighbor who raises ducks and he told me to feed her poultry stater feed until she gets a little older. Also does anyone know what kind of duck she is? As in a certain breed or anything?

My big question is about getting her used to me. I have only had her 1 day and this morning I woke up and went to hold her. I don't push myself on her to hard I simply reach into her pen very slowly to grab her. She runs away as I can only expect her to do but i just kind of corner her with my hands and scoop her up. Is that okay? Also when I actually get her into my hands she calms down really fast. She doesn't really move or make sounds. I'm sure she is scared but I talk to her quietly and stroke her really softly just so she can kind of get used to my voice and touch. Is it okay that she is so calm? She does move around a little after a minute, like her head, she looks around and will chirp a little bit. She wont take any treats that I try to give her yet though. Is this all normal? Should I just keep going at it as I am?

Lastly is it possible to train her to come by her name? Like for when it is time to go into her pen?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Very cute duckling! Be sure to check out the Duck forum NorthFlChick linked for you.

Welcome to BYC. Maybe the farmer can tell you what breed she is? She is probably missing the company of other ducklings. Could be she needs a slower approach.
Maybe you could just spend some time near her without grabbing her. Birds have to be constantly concerned with predators, and she hasn't figured out yet if you are safe or not.
