So, even though I already have 23/27 chicks (it may be 27 - I sold 4 extras to someone off of craigslist, but he has yet to show up with the money), I decided I'm just not going to be complete until I get some australorps - I only need a couple! I've tried craigslist and all my local chicken people - but no luck!

But, when I look at the cost of shipping for mypetchicken - I might as well just go ahead and order 15 from a closer hatchery, so now I'm thinking about placing another order! Aargh!! It was only supposed to be two or three when I started!

So, I need some advice - should I:

A. Wait till next year - I'm sure I'll want more again next spring
B. Just bite the shipping cost and order the couple chicks from mypetchicken; or
C. Place a big order and start all over again with the babies (and if I get more - what else should I get besides BA - I have: GLW/SLW/BR/BO/polish crest - golden laced and black w/white crest/salmon faverolles/EEs)

(I know this is probably the wrong place to go to get talked down - darn enablers!)

Wait till next spring! Those 27 chickies will very soon be 27 large chickens with their own needs and personalities and will require all your attention!

As Scarlett would say, tomorrow is another day.

I agree! Wait until next spring! This will give you a chance to get to know your current flock better! I want more and I too was on the fence. But I figured that I'd wait until February and if I still want more, I'll place an order.

Hope that helps!

Hate to say it but wait till next year. You will think of some others you want and make a nice group of chicks. I really had a bad time this spring wanting chicks. But my coop is full, and I am debating with myself what breed I want. So I'm planing in the next two years what I want. It's fun planning, it makes the getting more fun in my case. Good luck fighting that urge!

I swear looking at chicks is almost as bad as me being in a candy store!!

Thanks for seriously talking me down though - a whole winter will be good to plan for next spring, and who knows what other kind of birds I'll want by then!!

We've already start planning for next year - I'm going to try my hand at meat birds, possibly a few turkeys! Even my kids have the poultry itch now!

Wait, have fun with your curent peeps, and enjoy the excitement of getting astralorps next spring at the feed store where you can buy one or two.

They're a pretty common breed.
