talk to me about Cur Dogs (Mountain and Black Mouth)

Some lines of Catahoulas are known to be very "chill," without the explosive energy of the hunting/herding breeds. That's pretty variable, though, so you would have to speak to the breeder and most professional breeders select for treeing hounds these days. When I was at home, my parents had a 3/4 Catahoula 1/4 Pitt Bull, and she was about the best dog you could ask for. Huge desire to please and a longer attention span than other working dogs, lending to absolutely easy training in our experience.

We have a new pup at our house and she is a Black Mouth Mountain Cur. Her dad is a mountain cur and her mom a black lab. She is identical to a Black Mouth Mountain cur. She is 5 month old. We got her @ 5 weeks old so she really was the baby of the house for a short time. She potty trained like a trooper within 3 weeks after getting her she was potty trained fully! She a very smart pup. From day one she would fetch and retrieve, she sits and shakes ,and takes treats easily from your hand. When we are busy at home she will toss a puppy toy for herself and retrieve it back to where she started. I wish it were summer when we got her because I would love to go home and walk her every day but that day will come. Our weather has been -30 to -50 with the wind chills here. The 2 things we are working on with her now is to not jump when we get home at the end of the day, she is so excited to see us and at time while playing she still wants to bite but this has gone to sharp to very dull but is still doing it. She gets super excited when company comes and sometimes we have to put her in the crate and let her settle down. She is very good around toddlers even better than adults. She loves play! She and my grandson play hide and seek. She actually lays in her pet bed and hides her face and he babbles something at her and then she comes a running! It is so funny. She has super short hair and does not shed much which I like a lot. She is already acclimated to bath time and trimming her nails. I cant wait until we can have better weather and more outside time with her. We have been a family of only owning black labs and I was unsure of this breed because I did not know much about them but I am sure glad we have her. When you read about the pups there are a lot of good traits about them, loyal, obedient, hard working ready to please but still a good family dog. The only thing we disagreed on was her name. I wanted to name her Dixie but since my hubby let me have her I let him name her so her name is Brandi! Hope this info helps.
