Taming my birbs and newbie questions thread

As of a couple of weeks ago, I have (my very first) pair of pigeons settled into their loft and doing well. They're a bit skittish, and as they'll be mostly pets, I've been trying to make friends. I thought I'd make a thread to ask for tips and share my progress. My first question is: how many peanuts is an acceptable number of peanuts? I've heard it can be harmful to feed too much, but they seem to work best out of the treats I've tried. Should I avoid giving them out more than a couple times a week? Are there any other healthier treats the birds will go for?

I get unsalted dry roasted peanuts. This evening I decided to give them a special dinner since it's so cold. I tossed a few hand fulls of peanuts on the ground/snow.

I will tag @Hokum Coco , he uses peanuts, (unsalted) as treats and training. He would have portion amounts quite well figured out.

Just to clear things up. Salted peanuts are only for human consumption. These are the ones I purchase for my flock, and Gang, of Squirrels No salt
