Personally I think a New Hampshire red is a good breed,I never here to much about them being aggressive and my Mew Hampshire roo is super friendly.

have two silkie roosters and they are sneaky, mean buttheads. I am still trying to get them to respect me

Silkies aren't above the law... and they serve up nicely. I have had some real jerks who I knew would be processed from a young age. And plenty of good guys.

Attitude DOES breed forward. His offspring haven't ruined their chance yet though. He however has shown his true colors one too many times and would NOT be allowed in my OR anyone else's future gene pool. I'm passionate about chickens AND people and he is too much of a risk to ruining the chicken experience for or injuring someone.

Thanks everyone! There's some good advice in there. We're not culling our rooster unless things get WAY out of hand and nothing else works, and I feel like we are far from that point at the moment. I started using my spray bottle with a long jet stream preemptively this morning and he is already learning to stay away. I know it's not going to be as simple as that and there will be a lot of "two steps forward, one step back" but he has demonstrated an ability to learn quickly and I feel like we can get this under control.

His four sons are non-aggressive so far. One has been living with his new family for over a month and he is reportedly nice to his hens and gentle with humans. The three that remain with us for now vary in how skittish they are, and are establishing a pecking order amongst themselves, but none are human-aggressive. I know there is no guarantee that they will stay that way, but they are already friendlier and gentler than their dad was at the same age, so I'm hoping it bodes well for their future.
