Hey all,
I was wondering whether or not it was a good idea to use a tanning light for raising chicks rather than a heat lamp. I already have a tanning light, but I don't have a heat lamp. I need to know soon because I'm getting them early Thurs morning. Some people I thought I might ask:
@Eggcessive
@Kiki
@U_Stormcrow
@nuthatched
Thank you!

Can I say "damned if I know"? Depending on who you ask, I'm likely damned already, but in any event, I haven't a clue.

I use heat plates, not lamps. and when I do use a "lamp", its a black ceramic reptile bulb, not a "light" at all. Gives off essentially nothing in my visible spectrum.

For anyone in the future who wants to know about if this odd idea worked:
The tanning light did work. I kept them in the laundry room which is about 65 degrees. The tanning light produced 80+ degree heat (I can't know if more, the thermometor was for the fridge.) I turned it on over them and they were the perfect temp, running happily around. At night I used a radiant heater (The room is small) that way they could have darkness, and, well, the light just isn't meant to stay on all the time.
:)
