tape worms

WormGuard Plus contains DE and other contents which are ineffective in treating worms.
Go to TSC and buy Equimax horse paste for $12.99 and worm your birds.
I've dealt with tapeworms and know how to treat them.

Here are a few pics of two Black Stars caged in the garage that were infected with tapeworms. In one pic you can see the segments on the paper (39.99) pointed out with toothpicks.
Then in the other pic shows treatment using praziquantel in the horse wormer, you can see where the tapeworm was excreted by one of the hens in the cage. You can see the toothpick pointing at the long tapeworm strands that were inside the hen.
When birds are infected with tapeworms, it's best to systematically follow your birds around in the yard first thing in the mornings after you let them out of the coop and watch each bird take apoop. Make a note which birds' poop has segments in it, then isolate the infected birds and treat them accordingly. Depending on how many birds you have, it might take 2 or 3 days to find out which birds are infected. Make sure you do it when you first let your birds out in the mornings. Out of 24 birds, I've had as many as 5 or 6 caged at once treating them for tapeworms. And yes, I have the cages, also for hurricane evacuation.
i used to live in pompano beach, so i know about hurricanes... thanks

instead of running around behind a hundred chickens waiting for them to poop, why not just assume if one has them, probably most of them have them, since they are eating at the same table..
the medicine does not kill eggs. so you should repeat the dosage after a couple of weeks to give the eggs a chance to hatch.

Keep in mind that we're talking about tapeworms. Not all one hundred birds will have them. I'd hate to toss a hundred eggs when only twenty birds might have tapeworms. Tossing 20 eggs is a lot less than tossing a hundred eggs. (Egg withdrawal period after worming with Equimax.)
Reworming 2 weeks later is a must for tapes.
Groups of birds can be penned separately and infected birds identified in that manner and wormed individually.

Now if it were nematodes (any type of roundworm,) I'd worm all of them. Depending what type of worm I'm dealing with; I may worm either 3-5 days in a row, or every other day for 10 days, or worm once and then again in 10-14 days.
Worming can be done by breed or groups penned separately and all wormed individually.

For trematodes; there's only 2 wormers (valbazen or praziquantel) I'd use, and I'd redose in 14 days. Treat like tapeworms, not all birds will have them.
