Tarp for Shade

I am currently using a tarp, I love the weed cloth idea, I am always going out after a rain to getting the water off the tarp. How do you think it will hold up during a winter.

I used a tarp and found that it restricted the air flow and got so HOT in the run defeating the purpose. I bought a big roll of super heavy duty weed cloth and it works great!! It lets air and water through. I am curious to see how it weathers this winter too! I have enough to change it every couple of months for forever though! lol

We are using a tarp on the top of our run. Provides nice shade and the run continues to be breezy. We are thinking of replacing the tarp with a tin roof this fall. The tarp does flap and make some noise Our chickens seem to be used to it and not bothered.

Shadecloth or something else woven (wind-permeable, water-permeable) will work MUCH MUCH better. Won't flap much if at all, and won't catch water and collapse (sometimes taking part of your run fence with it)

A tarp doesn't last long and can be very destructive.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
