Tattoos; Good, Bad, Ugly, Pretty...?

I got mine on my foot, in memory of my son that passed away 3 years ago. Keep in mind, I am a 48 yr old woman. But this was something special to me. I waited a year to be sure and to decide what I wanted and where. But I agree with your mom too. My daughter got her tattoo on her foot first and I did like it. It was also in memory of her brother. Then she went crazy on me LOL. She has two more, one on each of her sides. My thinking was getting it on my foot, I could cover it up if I wanted to or let it show depending on what shoes I wore. I also know that I will never regret this one because it is so special to me. But I will not be getting another one.

I think all tattoos are ugly, like graffiti on a beautiful building. Just MHO.

I got a tattoo when I was 21. I'm now 44. 1) I'm glad I chose a small one 2) I'm glad I chose a discreet location for it....only me and my significant other have to see it...lol. Because of both of these considerations, I don't feel ridiculous having it at my age. If you work in a professional environment (or end up working in one), you may regret a big, visable tattoo.

Coyotemagic, I absolutely love the one that says all beliefs are connected in some way.

To the OP, whatever you decide, it will be there forever. I have one tatoo. It took me seven years to get it. For me, it was a personal thing. Someting I had to prove to myself. Mine has meaning, I don't regret it in anyway. My only advice is, whatever you decide on keep in mind where it's going. I had mine put in a place where, I can choose to let others see it, or not let it show at all.

I wanted a tattoo all through my teens years and 20s but there was always something else I needed or wanted to spend money on. Now that I'm almost 30, I don't regret NOT getting one. I don't feel deprived or depressed or feel that I missed out on anything.

That being said, I don't have anything against them.

Tattoos are fun, go ahead and get one.

Wow, I'm a poet!

Seriously, I've got tats, no big deal. Just put the first one in an inconspicuous place so you don't feel too self-conscious. Once you get some ink, you'll want a little more.

A tattoo can be forever and most likely will be unless you decide to spend lots of $$ and time to get it removed -
so the advice of waiting and making sure this is what you want is great advice!

I have 3 - I got my first one @ 27 - it is a very small heart with a rose just outside my bikini line below my hipbone - - that was 26 years ago and I have always liked it and it still looks great - color and all! - - the only time it is seen in public is in a swimsuit - - - my 2nd one is on my back shoulder blade - - I would have that one removed as I don't like the placement - strapless dresses etc - it is a purple rose and not very well done -

my 3rd one is pictured here and I LOVE it - had it done 3 years ago -- it is on the inside of my lower leg just above the ankle bone and only about 2 inches long - - the scrollwork above and below it was just that - scrollwork that I picked out at the tattoo parlor - - when I look at it sideways it looks like 2 M's - - my DH and I's names both start with M! So it all worked! He thinks I picked it on purpose so I just let him think that - - "Awwwwww honey you put our initials on there!" - - Uh-huh - yeah right - lol

I will be getting a 4th on the top of my foot very soon - it will be my #1 agility dog's ACTUAL pawprint - - as she walks all over me anyway!

Some ppl say it will hurt a lot more in that location due to the lack of muscle - but I have never thought getting a tat was all that painful - - will see how it goes!

You are smart to think about where it will be and the long term - and know FOR ABSOLUTE CERTAIN that this is what you want - - as I said the only one I would NOT have is the one on my back - the others are very subtle, easily covered and if you weren't looking or asking - not know they were there -

I remember when I got my first one my mother's reaction was this: "I have 2 sons in the Navy and my DAUGHTER comes home with a tattoo!!!!!!!!"

Please excuse the 'stubble' - It was only about 4 days old and I wasn't shaving around it yet!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Although I have no tattoos, I love looking at them. The reasons that people get tattoos has always intrigued me. I love to know if there is any meaning what the person chose.

My 17 year old son wants a tattoo but I want him to wait until he is a legal adult.
