Teacher Writes "Loser" On Students Assignments....

The saddest part of this to me is that in all the great stories of wonderful teachers, those who make a difference, those who sacrifice their lives when gunmen enter schools to protect their children, those who make sure a child without a lunch has food, those with dirty clothes get clean ones, those who are abused by horrible, horrible, parents,,, this is the story everyone will refer to.

Wow, there's positive encouragement! I would have flipped a switch and got all GHETTO mom on the teacher. I mean, what if the kid had a learning disibility or problems at home. I mean those insensitive words make a kid feel horrible. I mean, kids kill themselves over silly words like this!!!

I hope they get fired and have to take some kind of class to know how VERBAL abuse effects kids!!!!

So what the child learned that it is okay to hit someone who says something you don't like. Wow.

no but it'd be ok for me to punch his teeth out if he said it to my kids joking or not. That's a lesson there!!!!! Nobody messes with my kids in any inappropriate way.

YEAH, I SECOND THAT! And Boyd throws a mean punch......i'm scared!

This is something of my opinion. BUT where do you draw the line. Obviously some little girls are more thinned skinned than others. I don't think it's a red flag when a teacher tries to get on the kid's level. C'mon...this is middle school, not elementary. I went through enough classes with dry, dull teachers and those that were more fun and had a sense of humor got better work from me. BUT then again, where do you draw the line. What if some little girl or boy felt less special because the teacher didn't call THEM a loser!

Document his every word and abusive action in a journal and be sure to put dates. I'd also use the record memo feature on my cell if I could and record his interactions with you. How long will your cell record? Can you download it onto your computer?

I may just do that =] I can record up to 10 minutes at a time for 60 minutes, the only problem is when it starts to record its a pretty loud beep

I have tried putting my phone on silent and turning the volume down but no matter what it beeps. I could cough to cover the beep though

Florida it is ILLEGAL to record someone! You can ONLY do it when their "expectation of privacy" is VOID. SO it must be in a class full of kids ...NEVER just you and him!

The teacher's behavior was out of line. I definitely wouldn't want any school personnel teaching kids that this type of derogatory name calling is "cool"

Sorry, CT, but most 11 year old kids are just that, "KIDS". Teachers should be there to lift up not tear down. For many years I was a Webelos scout leader-boys between 11 and 12 years old in that interim period between cub scouts and Boy Scouts. There's a wide rang of maturity there, but most need positive reinforcement. I was one of those kids who had trouble learning in school and was labeled as "limited" especially by an 8th grade teacher. I bought into the labeling and almost gave up. We were a sending district so prior to high school, all kids had to be tested. Testing indicated that my intelligence was somewhat above average. (8th grade teacher raised a stink saying that I must have cheated somehow.) Writer of Words, I agree with you-too bad the negative gets the most attention. From then on in high school and college, I met some "real teachers" who helped me get to a path which led to success in life. I guess what I am trying to say is that "labeling" can lead to profound consequences.

I don't know what I was thinking...middle school...actually I was thinking this was more Jr. High, the most horrible of ages. Middle school is definately a sensitive age. I concur that middle school, age 11/12 is a bad age to do this. If it had of been Jr. High and beyond, then I stand behind my original sentiment. This is most likely due that to the fact that I and my kids are all "outties". We're all loud and love to find the humor in anything and everything. Loser is thrown around our house daily and nobody takes offense. We're just not that easily offended. Nobody calls my DH a loser though cause he's just a big old titty baby.
