TeaChick's Chicks

lol
Yeah.

I'll see any. I just love pictures, haha.
That would be great! But you don't have to if you are to busy. Flocks are awesome, big or small.

This is Beauty right now. She's looking better, but she still isn't herself, so this is her in the old coop.

This is the flock today in the compost hole. That little blob on the far left is Snoodle and the back of Eddie Lacy is closest to me.

This is another one of them in the compost, from the other side, so Eddie Lacy is on the far side looking over the flock. =) {Good rooster, good rooster. lol}

This is them from a little different angle. Eddie Lacy and Snoodler are on the far side. Chocolate is closest to me and Sandy is the light one in the middle.

This is Snoodle and one of the Leghorns.

Snoodle. It's hard to see her even though the sun isn't that bright, she's that white. lol

This is Snoodle from when we thought she might be a rooster b/c she was feathering out differently than the other ones.

These are all of them (five and five and Snoodle); I guess we'd had them for about six weeks or so at this point.

This is one of the pics of Snoodle I took when I was trying to figure out what she was.

So, new and old pics. I always have time to show off my chickens. lol

Update on Beauty:

She's doing a little better. When I say "a little" I mean a very little. Her comb doesn't look as bad. She's interested in eating. I hear her moving around in there. I'm not keeping her in the dark, but what I have covering the old coop to keep out the other chickens is an old trampoline mat, so she's getting light in and she can see out, but I can't see through it to see in.
Anyway, as long as she's fighting, I'm going to give her the chance, b/c that's what I would want.
Here's the pic I took today. I posted it already, but I'll put in on here larger.

This is today, close up.

This is a couple of weeks ago; she might have been feeling a little poorly, but she wasn't showing it at all at this point.

See why I've been so concerned?

You have a wonderful looking flock TeaChick! Snoodle is a funny name but fits a frizzle quite nicely.

I love your Leghorns!

Hope beauty is doing better soon.

Thank you. =)
My DH named her after a VeggieTales character who couldn't fly. (It's called "A Snoodle's Tale" if you get a chance to watch it. lol)
Thanks!

Thanks. Me too.
I just checked on her a few minutes ago and her wings are drooping. =( She's got until tomorrow morning to get them up and I'm checking on her often.

Beauty Update:

I'll try to be as brief as I can.
I went to check on her this afternoon. He wings were drooping and there was something on her wing (it was probably yogurt, but the yogurt is on the ground and she would have cleaned it off if she were up to it). DH thought I should put her outside of the coop and observe her. She kept her wings up and puffed herself out, but she couldn't even keep that up for five minutes. Two of the other hens tried to come over and peck her; the one I let near her did peck at her.
I'm taking my cue from her behavior and from the flock and I'm going to cull her tonight after dinner.
This is my first cull. I'd appreciate advice on how to do it.

Thank you all for your well wishing, etc.

Final Beauty Update:
I culled her after dark last night.
She fought hard, but she was done fighting.
First animal I've ever culled myself. I was determined to do it myself and not ask my husband to do it for me.

Current Experiment:

I have been reading on other threads where some chicken keepers are talking about the semantical difference between "going broody" and "sitting" on eggs. It goes something to the effect that a hen is either a broody hen or not and that sometimes a broody hen sits. Someone mentioned the idea that a broody hen could be encouraged to sit if she had a pile of something like golf balls or fake eggs, etc.

At this time, I have moved the eggs to the top nesting box and I have put 6 golf balls in the bottom nesting box.

The response I hope for from my hens is that they would begin laying in the top nesting box and that my Bantam Cochin would sit on the golf balls in the bottom nesting box.

We'll see. =)
