TeaChick's Chicks

Oh okay. Have you grown herbs and stuff for your chickens? =)

Nice! Has he ever attacked you?
Aww that's two bad. It seems like you've lost quite a few birds lately. :( You should get a whole bunch more. :)

Good plan. I have Barred Plymouth Rocks and they are good I also really want Wyandottes. From what I've heard and experienced, both breeds are great, although I highly suggest getting your birds from a breeder. Did you have any other breeds in mind?

Kind of. I grow herbs and my chickens eat them.

No, he knows better; IDK how, but he's never attached any of us, ppl or dogs.

I just started with chickens in March. I've lost 4 to predation and 2 to illness. I'm going to hatch out a bunch starting this month.

I plan on getting my birds from a very reliable breeder from now on. The only possibility of my getting a bird that's not from a breeder is this: If I can't find a smooth roo for my Bantam Cochin Frizzle hen, then I might get a cockerel (and another hen or two) from the same feed store where I got her. I'm hoping for a breeder in the area to come through though. ;-)

I have a list of about ten breeds I really like. I don't have it with me now; it's in my chicken notebook. *blushes* I remember that Dominique is on it and Cochin, Welsummer, as well as the Plymouth Rock and Waynodotte. I wrote them down b/c there's no way I'd remember them. ;-)

Cool!

That is good! Its sometimes hard to find a good rooster.

Wow that is really to bad. I'm sorry... Hatching is always good!

That is awesome! Have you found any good breeders in your area? You could get fertile eggs shipped from some of the BYCers, that might work. =)

Welsummers are great! We have some and they are really pretty, docile birds. Good choice!

Hey maybe once we both get Wyandottes we can exchange 'notes' and stuff. That would be interesting.

That is awesome! Have you found any good breeders in your area? Yes, we've become fast friend. lol She's the one who's mainly helped me with getting my chickens well when they get sick. You could get fertile eggs shipped from some of the BYCers, that might work. =) I'm actually expecting some very soon. =)

I have about a two page list of the breeds I want. Haha, The list is in my head. I know what you mean. I had to sit down and figure out what I want mathematically. lol I have a magazine that has over 90 chicken breed profiles in it. I made a list of what I want from, in, and to put into my chickens, assigned each item a point value, and then rated each breed in the book based on my system. According to my valuation system, Wayndotte are the best chickens for my particular needs. And there are nine other breeds that are just about as good. I'll post a list next time I have my notebook and my computer out here at the same time. =)

I want some,

  • Chanteclers
  • Wyandottes
  • Langshans
  • More Faverolles (I have a trio already)
  • Orpingtons I like these, but the food to egg ratio is higher than I need it to be; I have gold Comets, they're a gold sex link between BO hen and RIR roo. Good egg layers; possible broodies
  • Delwares I like these alright; they're on my long list, but they didn't make it to my short list. I'd take them if I had the chance, but I'm not looking for them. KWIM
  • Cochins I have a Bantam Frizzle. She's in my avatar.
  • Ameraucanas I like the idea of the colored eggs, but these just don't fit into my chicken plan. I think they're good birds, just not for my setup.

That's just to name a few.

I like that idea; it's a date! :p

Quote: Your Welcome.

That is good! Its always nice to have lots of help and stuff. Oh!!! When are you going to hatch, and who are you getting the eggs from? (If I may ask).

Sounds like you poured a lot of time into figuring out the next steps in chickening. Wyandottes are awesome birds indeed. Okay sounds good.

I like Orpington's because I want something that is commonish but can still go broody and raise chicks on its own.
Yeah I don't know, I haven't decided on my top five breeds yet. *shrugs* The Cochin in your avvy is very pretty.
That is understandable. I just want a few to mix up my flock a bit.

Okay then!

But I probably won't get any Wyandottes till Mach or April.

My breeder friend is letting me borrow an incubator and I'm going to hatch some of my eggs and trade eggs with her, etc.

I guess. I have specific needs in order to be able to take good care of my birds and in order to get out of them what I want.

I KWYM about Orps. That's why I'm glad I ended up with the Cochin I have, even though she's a Bantam.
I KWYM about not figuring out top five breeds. I did have to put quite a bit of effort into figuring out my list.
Thanks; I'm rather partial to her. =)
Right now, I'm working on getting my breeding flock established, so I have a mixed flock of good layers. If I start to breed a single breed, it'd be Cochin Bantams.

I have a little bit of a head start. My rooster is half gold-laced Wayndotte. :p
