Teaching grown chickens to be less skittish of us?

I have several hand raised chickens and ducks and none like to have me standing over them, they all run. Except for the barred rocks they actually run to me and those are the ones I have shown the least attention.

I think it is a instinct thing with them as to having a large predator over them. But if I sit in a chair I will soon be covered with chickens and my feet pecked by jealous ducks. They usually will jump up until there are so many that they push each other off. They seem to me like some peoples cats, they come when they want to, and they like to be the affection giver not the receiver. They get fidgety when petted but have no problem with preening or fighting for that coveted spot on the shoulder rubbing my neck where the make happy noises while napping.

Try going to them as the sun sets they will be looking for their favorite roosting spot. If you sit in a chair and they trust you they will probably jump in your lap, or try to crawl up to your neck to cuddle. If you allow them up to your neck wear some eye protection. Older birds may try to peck at your eyes.
