#TeamCrossbeakAmber

Amber isn't doing well... I'm not sure what's wrong, but she seems to be going downhill fast. Starting Sunday morning, I noticed her comb all purple. I brought her inside for a few minutes and her color returned with her acting fine. Every morning her comb appears to be getting more purple. This morning, she felt weak, her crop was empty, and she barely opened her eyes. She didn't even drink as much water as she usually does and was the first to leave the waterer instead of her usual last. She's not even being her usual talkative self either. 😢

Poor Amber! How is she doing now?? After all that she has been though.
I hate to be saying this but my thoughts are just to put her down. You don't want her to suffer!
:hit:hugs:hugs
I'm not home now, but before I left, she was standing by the waterer. I'm worried that I might have to, but I strongly don't want to. I just lost another bird in her flock this morning (something unrelated to what's going on with Amber). :hit

Poor thing! I'm sorry to hear that Amber isn't doing well.
Warm up some Oregano tea for her, that stuff has worked like a dream when my flock was having issues.
It could also be just the fact that, since she hatched with a crossed beak, she may not be as strong as other chickens and therefore more prone to illness.
Tagging some people who've helped me in the past...

Sorry about the bird you lost.
Crossed beaks can be from either incubation issues or genetics. I have had only maybe a couple in 19 years, one an Ameraucana cockerel whose beak became progressively worse and a New Hampshire hatched from a breeder's eggs. They can't eat well, as you know and they rarely get enough food so they do tend to go downhill at some point. I did euthanize the Ameraucana because he was not able to be bred due to the deformity and I could not keep him here. The other, I don't recall, seems a friend took him with her to care for.
Naturally what is wrong with her may not be related, however when there is one deformity you can see, there are often others that you can't. It's always hard when you're attached to them and the ones that require more attention/care become very special.

How's she doing, Lacy?
Last I checked, she was looking a little better. I gave her some electrolytes and sugar water this morning which helped with her color, though she started gasping immediately after. I offered her some treats a little while ago, which perked her up some. She refused to drink more of the electrolytes and sugar water though.

I've been getting some help in this thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/purple-comb-hen-not-doing-well.1604386/
Thank you everybody. :hugs
