After building my PVC hoop coop last year all seemed good. Then the rainy season came and I realised I'd made a mistake...big time!
The front 1/3rd of the coop kept flooding, and I eventually had to move the chickens to a smaller coop out of the rain.
I now want to try to fix the bigger coop . This is where I would appreciate some technical help please. Money is very tight, virtually zero. I do have access to discarded gravel which we removed recently from inside the filter of our large water bore. It is orange with excess minerals and muck. I'm thinking if I washed this somewhat, put it down on top of the soil floor in the coop, then put down sand, then leaves, then wood shavings, would this be ok? Is that the right order of layering?
Thinking I'll also have to raise up the immediate surrounding area around the coop. Maybe say 1/2 metre around the outside of the coop? Does that sound right?
Sure would appreciate wisdom on this please.
I'm wanting to get this project started asap as the smaller coop is now very very dusty and I'm becoming concerned about preventing respiratory problems.
Thanks
