Oh the teenage...months. I have two teens who are going through the I don't know you stage. My little babies that use to come hang out with me...now they just want to be alone in the yard by themselves please!

I have teen chicks, I haven't kept track of their ages, but they are somewhere in between 6 and 10 weeks old. Is that teenage?

Ours (3) have started chest bumping, they are supposed to be hens and I wonered if maybe I had a cock, but it sounds quite normal LOL, it is fun to watch. The dust baths are excellent entertainment too!

NO , we have ALL HENS and they all do that chest pumping . MAYBE their way of bragging .

Our teens LOVE to hop/skip around, and barrel along with their heads down for no apparrant reason. They're hours of fun!

Older chickens are funny too: Our SLW hen, Vanda, suddenly took great offense today to a basket full of clothespins on our bottom step. She stood warily, stock-still, staring at it for a solid 5 minutes, then cautiously began to make her way up the stairs until she was on the top step, making growling/purring/chuck-chuck noises. Rita, another hen, decided that looked like fun and promptly flew up upon the barbeque grill. Mom moved the basket towards Vanda and she went beserk, flapping off the steps in a tizzy, screaming at the top of her lungs. Rita stayed on the BBQ until I picked her up and put her on my lap. Keep in mind that these hens are 2 YEARS OLD!!!

Mom and I were in stiches for hours afterward.

I'm down to 28 teens. About half of them belonged to someone else and he has them now.

They were squished into an 8 X 8 coop and it reached a point where I told him he had to take his half. He brought me my half of the meat birds and I gave him his half of the other birds.

So right now. 28 teenagers in the 8 X 8 coop at night. Roam the yard during the day. No run.
1 banty hen with 8 chicks and 1 Buff Orp with 7 chicks in a 8 X 10 at night and roam during the day. 4 hens, 1 rooster, and about 7 meat birds (been processing today, had 15) in a 10 X 12 coop that is open to a 12 X 16 or so covered run at night. Let the meat out in the morning and let the hens out about noon. And the two Easter ducks.

I live in the country so I don't have to worry about neighbors, zoning, and traffic. Just predators. Have some Red Shouldered Hawks nearby but so far they haven't bothered the chickens.
