So I go out to collect eggs today and find this teeny, tiny, eitty, bitty little egg. I have a assortment of chickens, no banties, my adult hens have always laid medium to large eggs. I do have 4 younger hens, that are only about 3 to 4 months old, and I do not think they are old enough to lay yet.
Does anyone know why I am getting a super small egg from one of my girls.
I have not changed their food. They eat Purina layena pellets and of course cracked corn.
Any input is welcomed.

Probably is a fart or wind egg as some call them . Many many yrs back they were called cock eggs because farmers thought roosters laid them. However just a small word of advise. Layer feed is not really good for chicks til after they start laying and not good for roos at all. A better option is flock raiser w/ calcium on the side for the layers.
Wind eggs are caused bt pullets just starting to lay or hens that are stopping/taking a break from laying.

Yes its a fart or fairy egg.. nothing to worry about, its fairly common among older hens. But just a kind of glitch in the system. Who ever it is will most likely go back to laying regular eggs before long but you may find little eggs from time to time...
You can blow them out and rinse the inside and let it dry then paint the outside if you like. Makes a cute little basket of eggs for decoration..:love
Haha the other term is fairy egg, but I'm too immature to ignore the fart egg term :gig

You two are too much...:lau:gig
