teeny- tiny little bugs in coop but don't appear on chickens?????

Hi flick, these mites sound like they are giving you some trouble. they could be coming from the hay, but they like to hide in the creases of the wood. Some feed in the middle of the night. I have had this experience before. I tried de, bug spray, and washed the cages. After I lost one batch of birds and got new then they stopped all the sudden .

new cage, feeder, and hay. the mites were only in one cage though. I use pine chips and salt hay. only salt hay in the nesting box though.

i just want to understand, so mites only can come from another bird? not from a bail of salt hay? my husband says they cant be coming from the hay..

not from the hay. from other birds. my mites started with one bird then spread. killing off one group at a time. and my falt it was more than one cage. i meant one cage at a time. what symtems do your birds have?

we have 3 cages. only 3 birds left in onw cage. lost every singel batch of birds in the last 2 months. done everything. seems nothing we do works. we just dont have any luck

sorry, symptoms, they seem fine and then we find them dead. others lose feathers and then a few hours later they are dead. a few looked like they had wounds and then died about a day later.

first we thought it was maybe stress from a cat..or some had been attacked by a cat so we made cages fullproof from predators. then we thought that they were being freaked out by a cat and flying into cage and hurting themselves, so we started tarping the cages at night..then we were losing them in mid morning, as soon as we would come into house..come out and 2 dead..no wounds, just missing feathers..weird

i have 12 cages and had the same problem. i lost those 3 birds then sold that 1 cage. my uncle had that problem for 9 months then gave up and sold his cages. A exotic bird doctor said there is nothing you can do. every bird with that symptom we lost
