We recently aquired a gorgeous Giant Cochin roo. We plan to eventually introduce him to our flock of mixed breed standard hens (their current manly companion is tiny mille fleur d'uccle who trys his level best but just can't seem to "connect" well enough to produce fertile eggs!) "Mr. T" (new roo) is a beauty and seems to have a pleasant personality. I haven't found much information about "giant" cochins compared to standard... are these different breeds?

I would love to hear some info from you cochin experts.

I've bought them as both standard and giant- they all end up the same size. I might sell a few, and I listed them as both because that's how they were labeled when I got them.
Great birds- congrats on the big roo! Post some pics!

Thanks! I think that I will just ignore the "giant" label that came with our new guy for the sake of accuracy and truth-in-marketing

He is a massive fellow, but very sweet and easy-going. I think that I will order some Cochin pullets to add to the flock in hopes that they will go broody and hatch the eggs of our other hens as well. Our birds are strictly pets and egg-producers, so I'm not worried about show-quality or breeder quality birds but I do like to buy quality, healthy birds. Does anyone have opinions on good Cochin suppliers?

There is a marked difference in size between those labeled as Giants and those labeled as Standards. You have to see and compare them in person to really see the difference.

Ok, this probably going to get confusing... but I'll try by best. All large breed Cochins are called Large Fowl, which some folks call Standard breeds. Most of the hatchery quality Cochins can be labeled as standard size. The huge exhibition quality Cochins can be labled as giants. HOWEVER, they are both Large Fowl birds. Again, it takes a in person visual to really tell.
