Tell me about your nesting boxes!

My nest boxes are milk crates and baskets. I hired a handyman to convert half of my 8'x12' shed into a coop and he build a wide shelf about 30" off the floor, with two ladders up to the shelf. My seven hens roost and sleep on one end. There are two milk crates, one on its side and the other open-end up, both filled with pine shavings, on the other end. I added a large garden basket on top of the crate that sits on its side. Because it is wedged into the corner it is stable enough for my heaviest BO to hop into and turn around in. "The girls" happily lay in all three nests, but they do tend to roost on and poop in the crate that is open-end up. I'm thinking of turning it on its side like the other one.

we had an old rabbit hutch lying around. We took the door off the front and sectioned off the inside. Not the prettiest, but does the job

My hens nest boxes are constructed of mostly recycled materials, old laminate flooring, picket fence, etc. They are 15 inches wide, 15 inches deep, with a 12 inch tall opening. There is a 1x3 on the front to keep eggs from rolling out and they have a sloped roof to keep the chickens from roosting on them.

Ours are made out of plywood with a 2 x 2 perch bar running in front of them. The dimensions are 14in high, 14 inches wide, 12 inches deep, 4 inch board across the front opening so the eggs and nesting material don't fall out, and a slanted roof so that they can't perch on them and poop. Our chicks are still babies but in a few weeks, we will have individual doors on the back so we can reach in for eggs from the outside.

That big piece of plywood is the back of the nesting boxes and where the egg doors will go and then we will paint the whole thing.
