Tell me about your Swedish ducks! ;)

I love my Swedish ducks!

I started out with a few Pekins and the Swedish but I liked the Swedish so much better so I sold the Pekins! The girls are very quiet (unless they're hungry) and the drake is nice too (unless you are a duckling and then he'll chase you). My splash girl just went broody!

Here are the 8 ducklings I hatched June 1st, when they were just a couple weeks old:

here they are 2 weeks ago, around 6 weeks old:

I haven't kept Blue Swedish for years, but I really love the breed. One of my most friendly and loving pet ducks many years ago was a Blue Swedish. She was very calm and observant. You could almost see the wheels spinning in her head. Whenever I was out in the yard, she was right there with me just calmly watching and observing what we were doing.

I have two Crested Blue Swedish. I have gone back and forth about keeping them or not (the hen is extremely loud).
I finally decided to hang onto them because I have become attached.
The female is more black with a white speckled chest and doesnt have a crest. The male has a big crest(my daughter calls it a poof!) and is more greyish blue with a speckled chest.
I hope to get eggs eventually, but time will tell.
They are definitely characters!

I have had blue sweds and black sweds for 5 years now, and they are my favorite breed. They are calm, pretty, medium sized, lay big eggs most of the year, and make amazingly protective mothers. Every spring-summer mine go broody and hatch out large clutches of eggs (14-25). If I could only have one breed, it would be them due to size, temperment, apperance, and egg laying ability. We had a drake that would follow us around the yard all day like a dog. His name was Buddy.
