Tell me about your sweet gentle roosters!

This is Eclipse.
We held and cuddled him from a very young age, and he still loves to cuddle. He’s still very nice and calm even though he’s over a year old.

He is stunning. Colors almost exactly like my Wesley. Yours has the disposition I had hoped for when I got mine, since Greenfire says they are never human aggressive (and I had just given away my absolute beast of a Welsumer rooster). I didn’t get mine from Greenfire though, but either from Meyer or MPC, I can’t remember now. Maybe their lines are not as good? Where did you get Prince?
I got mine from a lady working with the breed on Ebay. Although she hasn't posted any hatching eggs this year. I hope she's just taking a break and doing well. And not Covid related or avian influenza.

Doris, not sure how old he was in this picture, but as you can see, his ladies adore him. He is 4+years now. Still sweet natured. He is a blue orpington x ameraucana (easter egger) and very large.

Goliath one year +
Son of Doris and a dark brahma hen. The table he is under, is 32" tall. He has a flock of 7 girls that include naked necks, cream legbars, langshan mix, and brahma mix. He is very gentle with them.

This is ButterBean, aka little, aka puppy. 1 year old.
He is also Doris's son. Not sure who his mama is.
He is very sweet, but he hasn't attracted any ladies of his own, yet, so he just hangs out with my cat. I'll probably give him some girls this year.

My roosters are all pets, more so than most of my hens. I want to be able to trim their nails and their spurs, and treat them for injuries without fear of injury to myself. I have grandchildren, and though they aren't allowed in the chicken yard unsupervised, it is important to me that my roosters are gentle.
One thing my roosters have in common (other than blood) is that they were all raised by broody hens, as part of my flock. Doris was the first chick ever hatched here by a broody.
All of the roosters that I have rehomed, have been very gentle. I still stay in touch with most of the owners. They love their roosters.
Good luck finding/raising your perfect rooster!

There are three roosters who stand out to me as the best.
First: Sparkler

(Not the best picture) Sparkler was born and raised here, I still have his mom. Unlike his father, who was very aggressive, he was always good to the hens and never gave us humans a bad look. Sadly we lost him about a year ago. He was a black copper maran x speckled Sussex.

Next up: Alex (also a bad picture sorry)
Alex was so incredibly sweet to his hens, the one in the picture would get picked on a lot and he protected her. Never did anything wrong and treated everyone with respect. His nickname was “The Sheriff” because that’s exactly what he was, a law enforcer, a peacekeeper, the boss. Unfortunately he fell victim to cancer and lost his last fight in November 2020. He was a cuckoo maran x cream legbar

Finally: Ralph
Ralph was the ruler of the Bantie coop, he loved loved loved chicks. His eyes would light up whenever he saw them and he would help show them where the food, water, good foraging places were. He fought a possum who broke into the coop and killed his daughter, Rena, losing his leg band and a bunch of feathers in the process. He went blind at the age of 4, I was out there periodically through the day to make sure he wasn’t stuck somewhere and make sure he got enough to eat and drink. I did that everyday until he passed a year later.

Kinda sad I know, all the really good roosters are gone but I’ve got some up and comers who are proving to be just like those guys as they mature. Like Tino, Alex’s nephew, Rio, Ralph’s son, and kind of Lucky, he’s a Sparkler son but him and his brothers are taking forever to mature and treat the ladies right.

Sure hope so, too! Don’t know if I would dare buying chicks or eggs on ebay. Hadn’t even occurred to me. I’d think it would be hard to get a good feel for the quality of the seller… But it obviously worked well for you!

I have had chickens for the better part of 40 years. In that time, I have had a couple hundred roosters. Of them, only about five have been aggressive towards people. Which was usually the result of someone harassing his hens, acting aggressive or skittish around them. My chickens come around close when I am out in the yard. Even taking a treat from my hand. Sometimes when I am sitting outside, they will jump up on my chair. I do not attempt to cuddle them. Not saying that is wrong. I just don’t do it. I have had roosters act defensive of their hens when I get close. I just keep doing what I am doing and don’t pay him no mind. Which tells him I have no fear of you and may even be something that can make a meal of you. Usually they shuttle their hens away and go about just being chickens again. Here is a picture of my four year old American Game Bantam rooster. With his inch and a half spurs.
