i got 50 bob white quail eggs and since i cant raise them with my chickens im going to build them there own little area with a big run/flight pen and everything.
i would like to know:
-when they start mating
-when do they start laying eggs
-what kind of nesting material do they need
-ratio male-female
-can they rear there own chicks
-how many eggs do they lay until they go broody
-and anything else you can think of
thanks. cole.

When they feel like it, but around 20 weeks or so.

what kind of nesting material do they need

Wood shavings, straw, or even just wire floors work fine if they have something like pine boughs to play in. Back when I kept them, they did just fine with a wire floor and a bunch of fake flowers and vines.

ratio male-female

I'd say bare minimum 1:3

can they rear there own chicks

Yes, but they can also slaughter their own chicks with little to no warning. Best to use a brooder, IMHO.

how many eggs do they lay until they go broody

Anywhere from 1 to a dozen if they go broody at all.

I'd recommend grabbing a copy of something like "The Beginner's Guide to Raising Quail", and reading through it while the eggs are in the incubator. Bobwhites are one of the more difficult quail species to start with, YMMV.
