Tell Me Anything You Know About Brown Chinese Geese

I have the white ones though i did think about getting the brown this year but price made me get whites. And my whites can not fly at all lol they are noisy though. But if you snuggle them when hatched they get clingy lol my gander is 14 years old so they can live to 20 hope your ready for the long commitment lol

I have a Production African, probably most similar to the Brown Chinese. As well as a Buff goose.

I would not assume that the geese will “guard” your sister’s flock. They are fantastic alarms, but any guarding they do will be to defend their own. And, the guarding itself is more bluff than anything. They are still prey animals and may get picked off by even the smallest predators. A true guard would be a trained LGD.

Geese won’t necessarily like other birds, either. My geese are nearly 1 year old now, and they are still learning to tolerate my ducks. My African especially will yell and chase if the ducks get within a few feet of them. They can be in the same yard & pond just fine, but they must sleep separately.

As for befriending the geese yourself, spend all the time you can with them. They love those who hang out with them the most. And those who feed them leafy greens :p

They can eat duck feed, but they’ll very likely need additional niacin added in to support their legs.
I personally use Mazuri Waterfowl feed, but I’ve heard Kalmbach duck & goose is good, too.
Mine eat ~2 cups? of feed each per day, and then they graze grass for the rest of the day.

Geese chew on everything, and I mean absolutely everything!! Do not leave anything out that you do not want them eating or destroying.

Mine flew over a 5’ fence once, but only once, because they got spooked. They’ve been grounded since.
