So I have 18 chicks that I hatched. They are a day old and various breeds.

I'm going to try every sexing test on them, and keep records to see which are right.

I know about vent sexing, and obviously sex-linked colors (which none of these are).

Please explain the methods AND what the results mean (so male vs female). Old wives tales are fine, I'll try them out.

Thanks! I'll post my results.

If it lays eggs.... definitely a hen.
If it crows.......... probably, but not necessarily a rooster.

Almost always works for me.

you have to blow on their vents, if there is a penis you should see it, but you have to look quickly....let me know how you make out...

I've never heard of a hen that crows...??

Do a search. You'll be surprised how common it is. Sometimes, but not always, it is in a situation where there is not a rooster and the hen assumes the role.

Occasionally they just have gender issues.
