I could put this in the 'bad day' thread but I'll be positive and say that our electricity was reconnected at 4.00pm after a seven hour blackout!
My wife woke me at 7.00am, way after my usual up and about time, to tell me that the village PA had announced another blackout. Cabling from a new major sub-station is being upgraded and they do this to us once or twice a week. The house is all electric so I jumped to it for shower, breakfast, TV news and some internet before we lost it all. My wife rushed around the plants with a hosepipe. Nothing works in our house unless there's electricity. We provide most of our own water pressure via an electric pump so, apart from the downstairs taps, there's no flow anywhere.
All the necessary was done in time and then 'click' off it all went. Then the temperature built up. It reached over 37C (99F). Off to the supermarket for milk and a cool down and then back home. I began to melt by lunchtime so, before I became unfit to share human company, I took off again to a local bar to meet some friends and sit by a powerful fan.
So, what a great day in the end. A cold beer or two and, later, a much appreciated cooler evening at home with my wife and the stepdaughter home from Uni., all the showers working overtime, a movie, cup of tea, lights and fans.
How nice. But it will be even hotter for the next few days so I hope that linemen leave us in peace.
