I finally broke down and got one of them newfangled Myspace pages if anyone is interested.

Name: Erin Whipple
Birthday: July 16, 1972
Hometown: That's a toughie - was born in Wichita, KS but spent most of my childhood in North Pole, Alaska. I guess North Pole will always be "home".
Current Residence: Kodiak Island, Alaska
Relationship Status: Married to Wes Whipple, custom knife maker
Political Views: Let's all re-read the Declaration of Independence and start there!
Religious Views: Basically a Christian faith, although I feel like a person is much closer to God when they are sitting on a mountain top listening to His creations around them than when they are sitting in a church during a mandated time. I also deeply believe in respecting each person's right to their own belief - religion is a personal experience and if it's right for you then it's RIGHT.
Activities: I'm employed as a project manager for the lands & natural resources department of the regional native corporation. I'm also a mom, wife, president of the local non-profit trails organization, co-advisor of the local FFA chapter, member of the local bear advisory committee for Fish and Game and anything else that pops up!
Interests: My kids and family first and foremost; trails - construction and remediation; riding ATV's; environmental education for youth; gardening - flowers & vegetables; chickens, ducks, dogs, cats and rabbits and all other animals; wildlife; enjoying the beauty Kodiak has to offer.

Favorite Music: Old country (the new stuff all sounds the same), Miles Davis, Norah Jones, Bob Seger, anything that grabs me. You should NEVER like music just because it's what's currently popular - music should move your soul.

Favorite TV Shows: Just got cable back after being without it for years so getting reacquainted. Enjoy House, Dirty Jobs, most discovery channel shows. Love reruns of Friends and Sex in the City.

Favorite Movies: Anything that makes me laugh; Under the Tuscan Sun; A Good Year; On Golden Pond

Favorite Books: I love to read but get obsessive about it. Love Harry Potter; all Clive Cussler; all Jane Austen; anything else that's interesting.

About Me: Hmm, this is kind of like the old job interview question "what are your strengths/weaknesses".

It's hard to summarize myself.

I'd like to think I'm an enigma - but deep down seriously doubt that's how anyone really sees me!

I love to laugh and enjoy being the class - or work - clown. I don't mind making fun of myself in an effort to get other people to laugh. I don't have a lot of close friends, as I tend to be the type of person who will do anything in the world for my friends and then am very hurt when they don't reciprocate. I can't stand selfish people and drama queens, which seems to summarize so many of the women that I've started to become friends with. I enjoy the simple things in life - my kids, the outdoors, my animals. I can't STAND housework and will blow it off in a heartbeat to go to the beach or go 4-wheeling with my family. I don't want to get to the end of my life and have nothing to show for it but sparkling floors.

I love my daughter and would have loved to have a dozen more, it wasn't in the stars for us. Adoption was considered for many, many years, but money always seemed to be an issue. Instead, to have more kids, we take in exchange students. We hosted our first foreign "daughter" from Brazil three years ago. Now we have one from Denmark. We love having these kids on our homes! We also took in a local boy who stayed behind a few years ago when his folks moved. He think of us as his second set of parents (even though I'm only 15 years older than him) and moved "home" this year to be near us.

Although my family is first and foremost, I love my job and working outside the home. I would probably go stir crazy being a stay-at-home mom and admire the women that can do it without losing their minds!

My job takes me all over Kodiak and I spend several weeks a year in remote locations where I often come face to face with Kodiak bears, Sitka blacktail deer, fox, king salmon (when I fall in the river!) and so much more. When things slow down I am always amazed to realize how blessed I am!

And to top it off - I love BYC and all the people I've "met" here!

I moved here from G.R. about a year ago. We lived on the NE side - it was getting SO bad up there.

I don't miss it at all

Miss some of the people there, but do not miss G.R.

Peace -
