Telling gender by comb size question...HEAVY PICS added in post 11

Okay, I'm figuring out how to do these. This one was a practice run.
In this picture this little one has a tall comb. It is mostly blackish with splashes of very pale pink. I'm thinking he's a boy.

I will try to post more pics of the babies I've been talking about.

this one possibly a girl. Her name is Brownie

another girl maybe, named Cleo (look at her eyes) She came from a brown egg with a RIR mom and EE dad

The black and white one in the back is Tips. I think it's a girl, no comb yet, don't know what parents are.

Okay, I had to save the UGLIEST for last, possibly a boy named Scraggly. This one is is patchy, none of the rest are. The comb has an indention furtherst away from the beak, none of the others are like this. The pic makes it look infected, but there's no open sore. Comb is pink and sticks out a little

As for parentage, I went over to my neighbor's to look as his birds. All of the roosters had tall single spikey combs, except for two. Theirs looked like a fat red walnut. The girls either had next to nothing combs or short red single ones. From what my neighbor says (he really doesn't know much about breeds), he's got RIRs, Amerecunas (most likely EEers), modern game (but none of those eggs hatched for me), and some kind of black chickens. Some have a greenish sheen, but most don't.

So, is it too early to tell the genders of these babies?

Well certainly, many roos start looking more noticeably roo-ish at those ages, some almost pop right out of their eggs looking & acting "cocky". But I wait until I see those pointy man feathers emerging before I consider the case fully closed. I think that's around 9 weeks, but that might not be quite accurate, I always mean to come back into the house after seeing them & check the calendar to see how old the boys are when I first notice those pointy feathers.

But we just eat up our extra roos, so I don't have to try to guess the sex early in order to get rid of anyone before they crow.

Thank you ella. The numbers didn't quite match up with the pcitures, but I think I figured out the order. So Brownie and Rhodi are a toss up? And Cleo looked like a boy in your #3 and like a girl in your #9? Oh I do hope Brownie and Cleo are girls! They are my favorites!

Thank you for helping!

Anyone else with any guesses? BTW any pictures that are hooked together are of the same bird in question, just incase it was hard to tell!

I dont believe any of my chicks are roosters until they start crowing, and I try to pretend theyre not after that!

I have multiple varieties of pure breeds that I should be able to tell, too!
I've tried to figure it out sometimes, but so many types have different comb sizes, like leghorns, etc, some have the same feather patterns, etc....Like I say, I use the "until its obvious" or "until it crows" method! Best of luck, they're cuties!

My two remaining roos can crow up a storm for all I care and it doesn't bother me or anyone else around here since we are very isolated from any neighbors. The reasons I wanted to decide early has to do with space issues, wanting to find them homes before the pecking order was too well established, and before I got too attached to them. I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat my pets and that's what I got my chickens for; to be pets with benefits (the eggs).
