Is it normal for there to be a higher temp reading next to the egg turner motor?

I thought I had everything ready to go to set the eggs. I bought a second digital thermometer to compare with the one I've had in for the past 24 hrs. For a minute or so they would both read 99.5 and then they would change and be about a degree different, I was thinking it would even out once the eggs were put in.

I placed the eggs almost and hour and a half ago. I noticed the egg turner motor seemed warm and I don't have a full tray so I filled the middle and then a few on the outside, opposite of the turner motor.

Next to the motor I just saw the temp jump to 102.2, then went back down to 101. The opposite side is slowly going up and is at around 97. I'm not going to make adjustments yet but is this normal? Does the area near the motor just spike temps temporarily? Once the eggs have warmed up, should it all even out?

Two things ..... 1) as you know kinetic energy gives off heat, motor is a mixture of kinetic, electrical and this makes conductive heat. Your incubator has a fan, and as long as it is pulling upward you shouldn't have any thermal layers in the incubator-- meaning it should be relatively uniform throughout give or take a half a degree. 2) check your thermometers they could be duds. I've had expensive thermometers be garbage and cheap 99cent ones that only read in celsius rule as king. Check you never know. and oh yeah temp of 102 is fine for an incubator.

Thank you for your reply.

I only had to make a small adjustment after about 4 hours last night. Its still reading at 101-102 directly next to the motor but the other side is showing 99.6.

I tried making a 'water wiggler' so I can use the probe thermometer but it didn't work out as planned. I'm going to try and find one today.

Do you have still air or forced air? I just checked it and the cool side was 98.5 and the hot side 102. I was wanting to not open it until its time to candle but I might move the thermometers and switch them. Both had the same temp a couple of times yesterday so I think even if they're off, they at least agree to the degree that they are off...if that makes any sense...

I thought I could just put the probe thermometer in the incubator and use it too but the readings were really high. I started reading the information that came with it and it says it has to be in something, which is why the water wigglers must work so well.

I wish I was a little more certain of the fertility of the eggs I set from my own group and then the others are shipped, which I've read will probably have a low hatch rate. Its going to be hard to judge how well the incubator works with the other factors.

Oh, I'm also doing dry air incubation, I will add moisture at lockdown. I have both vent plugs still in and had planned to take one out at day 10. I wonder if I remove one if it will help regulate the temps.
