So I have 2 250W infra-red heat lamps inside of one small black stock tank, and the bulbs are bellow the lip of the tank, and the temp is only 65*F st the bottom of the tank.... (digital thermometer). What am I doing wrong? Can you read infrared temps with a regular home thermometer? any suggestions? Thanks!

What is your ambient temp? I have 1- 250w heat lamp above a large plastic brooder and it is 98 degrees inside.

yep...thermometer has to be off....mine is not even a heat lamp bulb....and it is right at 90 degrees in my huge one in the garage...

Could it be 65 Celsius? That would be about 149 Fahrenheit so really high...

Update: I changed the thermometer out, and got a bowl of chereos, and checked it, it says 78*F and slowly climbing. Il post back. I also put some cardboard flats over the wire to keep the heat from escaping.
Thank you so much everyone!

Make sure it doesn't get too hot in there. The chicks should have some place to escape the heat, otherwise they could suffocate.
